On the occasion of 15.02. - international day of children suffering from malignant diseases Firefly association gave a interview for Croatian National Television. It can be seen here (only in Croatian), date February 15th, begins in 45,35 minutes.

February 15th is the international day of children suffering from malignant diseases.

We send many wishes for good health to all sick children and their families, to all health care workers, donors and supporters of children suffering from malignant diseases.
Congratulations to our little heroes for the courage and perseverance and we promise that we will do everything we can in their best interest.

Finally - a title that we wait for decades!
Picture book for children whose family member is very ill, "When someone has a very seriously illness - children can learn to cope with loss and change".
This book will help families to communicate and evaluate a child's understanding and feelings about family change while teaching basic concepts of illness and healthy coping skills.

With our campaign "Firefly lights for Rijeka" which was launched on 15.01.2011 we have raised more than 2.000.000,00 HRK (more than 264.000 EUR) and now construction work finally began so that children can have better treatment conditions.

Dear parents,
if you feel that you need psychological help, contact us and we will organize a support group for you. Whoever thinks that group work is not for him or her, individual counseling and therapy can be arranged. Consultations are completely free for all participants.

Characterictic of the brave people is that they are willing to seek and receive help when they need it. Consultation with a psycho-therapist does not mean that something is wrong with you, it means that the situation in which you are is not normal.

Dear parents of sick children,

Did you know that in the Firefly's premises in Deželićeva Street you can:

1) spend the night with the use of kitchen and bathroom (for a longer stay in Zagreb we provide accommodation in two apartments near hospitals in Klaićeva Street)
2) spend a pleasant and useful time with your child in our living room while waiting for a scheduled checkup or treatment in hospital. We all know that it can take hours and during this time you can cook a soup, tea or a full lunch while your child is playing in safe surroundings ;o)
3) entrust us with your child to be taken care of by our assistants - volunteers while doing something in town or hospital
4) bring the child (sick, one with a completed treatment, brothers and sisters of sick children) for instructions or learning support
5) seek psychological assistance, individual counselling for your child, brothers and sisters of sick children, for yourselves and/or your partner
6) organization of birthday parties or other celebrations for any child in your family
7) educate yourself, learn something useful, read
8) unlimited use of internet, fax, mail, phones
9) arrange for your child lessons in playing an instrument, acting, dancing, painting
10) learn all about your rights in the domain of health and social care
11) arrange examination for your child with a clinical psychologist (required for the issuance of various certificates) without waiting
12) consultation with an expert - nutritionist about diet for child during the treatment and after care
13) meet other parents of sick children and share experiences, fears, hopes, successes
14) get certified translations of medical documents
15) hear a kind word, get understanding and support
16) obtain privileged ticket for public transportation, parking, transport by train and free use of highways
17) take a picture books, movies, coloring books, worksheets - all specifically designed for children with cancer and their siblings
18) look for something that is not on this list but it can help you ☺

Don't say you didn't know all this, our printed brochure are not read much because today people use Facebook or the internet. Those who do not know this - tell them. ☺
