Each nicer than the other, all better than another, they located on our calendar and greeting cards for 2012. year. Since last year our angels are collecting profit for the purpose of making an educational CD and the Web for sick children and teenagers. We hope to finish the project in 2012.

Awards was held under the auspices of the President Mr Ivo Josipović and the Prime Minister Mrs Jadranka Kosor on 30th November 2011 in Split. Firefly is the winner of the category "Non-profit organisations and associations." The winners of the main "Oscars for humanity" are the Croatian voluntary blood donors.

We have received this recognition with pride, but also as a big responsibility that obliges us to continue our work. Supported and encouraged - we go on.

Mr Ivo Josipović, Croatian President, received the representatives of the Firefly Association in his cabinet. President Josipović was informed about the problems encountered by the Firefly. The President stated that the Firefly was recognized as an organization that worked diligently and whose contribution to the prosperity of sick children and their families has been significant.
Mr Josipović expressed his support and encouragement for our further work at the national level.

On Wednesday, 12th of October we submitted four volumetric pumps to the Clinical Hospital in Split, hemato-oncological children's department.
As it was already mentioned, the action "Right dose of perseverance",  which was launched by Ivan and Luka from the Appeal Association, has raised the necessary funds for the purchase of this pumps.
With this action a total number for donated volumetric infusion pumps for Clinical Hospital in Split in the past year is 6 pieces (the value of the donation is 99,252.77 kn or 13,278.23 eur). Also, in the summer of this year we submissioned 10 pumps for pediatric hospital in Zagreb, Klaiceva street in value of 162,360.00 kunas (21,850 eur). We believe with this donation we have helped our little fighters to facilitate their treatment.

Without you, this donation would have not been possible, so thank you all for each your donation, good will and great heart you have shown for us and our little fireflies.

We have great news - instead of the two planned infusion pumps we are going to buy four infusion pumps for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology department in Split. Infusion pump accurately regulates the duration and the amount of leakage of a drug and it is essentially neeed in the treatment of children with malignant diseases.

Action "Right dose of perseverance," which was launched by Ivan and Luka from the Association of Appeal raised a total of 62,352.77 Kuna. Each donation contributed to this result and we are grateful to all of you who have joined this action for Split.

Especially thanks to Ivan and Luka, who generously offered their time, strength and willingness for kayaking Adriatic see from Dubrovnik to islandof Krk and drew everyones attention to this action. Their humility, simplicity and willingness to help make them truly great men with big heart.

Stipe is a little boy from Mostar and he needs your help!
He is one year and 5 months old and has difficult diagnosis of cancer of the eye. Last week doctors removed his right eye, but the tumor has spread to the left eye.
The Clinic in Essen, Germany could save his sight but the health insurance does not cover the extremely high cost of the treatment.

Ivan and Luka set off bravely from Dubrovnik to the island of Krk! With each stroke they are closer to the goal, with every passed mile their belief in success grows and pushes them forward even faster.
So far is collected more than 17,000 hrk (2,287.00 eur), the target amount is 40,000 hrk (5,380.00 eur) needed for the purchase of two infusion pump for Pediatric Oncology department in Split.

Associations Firefly and Appeal have joined forces to buy volumetric infusion pumps for pediatric oncology department in Split. An infusion pump accurately regulates time and amount of leakage of the drug and it is essential in the treatment of children with malignant diseases.

24th July two enthusiasts, Ivan Stojčević and Luka Bahtić, from association Appeal, left in kayaks from Dubrovnik to Baška (arrival date is scheduled for 14th august) with the aim of collecting 40,000 hrk (5,380.00 eur) for the purchase of two infusion pumps for Children's hospital in Split.
This action is aimed to draw attention to the problems that little patients encounter every day, to their struggle, courage and perseverance, to their light which shines on us.

This year we were the guests of the Zagreb Zoo. The kind staff, led by director Davorka Maljkovic, were armed with good will and patience to answer hundreds of questions. And so we find out when a giraffe is coming; the names of two sisters lionesses; what eats world's smallest monkey and why the prairie dogs are called like that, although they look like squirrels.

In the end we were all surprised and thrilled by the singer Sanja Dolezal. It was really wonderful, you can see it yourself by looking at the pictures in our photo gallery.

On Saturday we had a booth in Gajeva street. Pupils from Primary school "Marin Držić" have invested their time and a lot of effort to make really beautiful things. All profit from the sale will be used for regular activities of the Firefly Association .

We especially thank Antonela, Karmen, Tea, Sara, Marijana, Ema, Leonarda Ana H. and Ana M. on the big heart that they showed for Firefly and, of course, big thanks to the teacher Marija Vlahek.

On Saturday, June 11th from 10˙00 -13˙00 hours Firefly in cooperation with the Primary School "Marin Držić" will have a booth in Gajeva street.
Diligent hands of pupils under the watchful eye of the teacher Marija Vlahek made a nice variety of things from natural materials - bags, flowers, angels, hearts, coasters, ...
Part of the work can be seen in the window of the Tourist Information Centre at Ban Jelacic Square.

10th June (Friday) at 17 hours Zagreb ZOO will host sick children and their families and provide them with an unforgettable experience with animals.

On that day ZOO will close doors from 17 to 21 hour for the public and will host sick children and their families and treat them as VIP guests. It will be allowed to peep behind every door, ask zookeepers whatever we want, get a closer look at animals. Educational workshops, entertainment, music party will be organized.

Gathering is at 16 ˙ 45 hours at the front gate.

We bought 10 medical devices, volumetric infusion pumps, for children in the oncology department in Children's hospital in Klaićeva street, the total value of 162,360.00 kn (21,850 eur). We bought 20 chairs for 1,198.00 kn (162 eur) for the same department, for parents visiting their child.
We received information that the children's oncology ward in Split also need 10 of volumetric infusion pumps.

campaign for raising funds for the restoration and renovation of Children's oncology department in Rijeka, Kantrida, has been completed. Encouraged by our actions the Government has earmarked 1.000.000 kuna (134.000 eur) for this purpose, the City of Rijeka has earmarked HRK 250,000.00 (33,640.00 eur).

Through phone calls to the charity phone till 4th of April we collected 400,689.40 kn (53,922.10 eur), and on our account was paid 283,600.73 kn (38,165.00 eur).

The total amount from all sources known to us, is: 1,934,290.13 kn (260,303.00 eur). Hereby, we consider our action for Rijeka completed. Phone 060 800 440 will be shut down 10th April 2011.

Firefly will be present on Interliber this year (Zagreb Fair, from 10th to 14th November). Daily from 12˙00 till 14˙00 h we will have a workshop for teenagers in the children's corner in Hall no. 6. In partnership with Bulaja Publishing we are preparing a new website for sick children and young people - completely weird, witty, funny, very clever and useful. Workshops for teenagers are a part of the preparation and gathering information for the project. Children and young people - workshop participants - will be able to express themselves creatively, learn how to create quickly and easily their own animated film, and thereby have fun.

The first part of the workshop - the psycho-emotional motivation will be lead by Zoran Cipek from Firefly and the second part - a creative expression and production of cartoons – by amazingly creative Helena Bulaja from Bulaja Publishing. Come and motivate children and young people whom you know to come and have a smashing time.

As we are preparing several smart and useful titles for printing, next year we are going to come to Interliber as publishers!

So far we have distributed hundreds of copies of cartoon "Peter and the Dragon" to sick children and those who managed to beat the disease. "Peter and the Dragon" has been seen in Rijeka, Split, Zagreb, as well as in Macedonia, Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Slovenia. Why do sick kids love "Peter", why they have watched it again and again, why they cry and laugh at the same time while watching the cartoon, why children who have finished treatment complains why they didn't have this cartoon while they were sick, why parents and experts calls us to thank us as for providing a copy for each family faced with malignant disease, why we are now so proud and does it all make sense - check for yourself.

It was very cold in Rijeka that day, october 13th. We were thinking - we are going to the seaside, Zagreb is dark and cold, but instead of that it was freezing in Rijeka. But only until we came to Kantrida, the children's oncology department led by dr. Jelena Roganovic. It was hot there for several reasons:

• the department is small and crowded, so it must be hot
• the medical staff on the department is devoted so warmly to their job that they could melt the ice
• we get hot by carrying things we brought - equipment, books, picture books, school supplies, DVDs (a donation worth more than 10,000.00 kuna)
• we were a bit ashamed when dr. Roganović admonish us because we were a little bit clumsy in communication with medical staff on department

So after all, we were warmed up on our return to Zagreb.
